It’s time to get out and photograph spring wildflowers. We’re planning an all day outing to Celery Bog and other areas in and near West Lafayette, IN.
PLEASE RSVP if you are coming, and if you are meeting at Celery Bog or at Caseys in Urbana to caravan.
Due to the time zone difference, we will be leaving Caseys in Urbana at 4am. This trip will have opportunities for Nature, Birding, Landscapes, Architecture, and History.
We have a 2pm appointment for a private tour of the Ouiatenon Preserve SW of Lafayette. This is a rare and unique opportunity to visit closed areas of one of the premier archeological sites east of the Mississippi River. PLEASE let us know if you are coming, we'd like to give a head count to the tour leader.
Tentative schedule for the day. We can make decisions during the day with the members that are attending to modify the schedule.
4am (CST) Leave Caseys in Urbana
7am (EST) Meet at Celery Bog, at the Lilly Nature Center. NOTE:There is a gas station just east of Celery Bog. Instead of turning north to Celery Bog, go on East for a potty stop/snacks.
8:30am (EST) Go to Tippecanoe Battlefield (and Museum). Admission is $7 per person. Museum opens at 10am.
10am (EST) Go to Prophetstown State Park. $10 per vehicle admission fee charged. The park also contains The Farm at Prophetstown, featuring 1920's lifestyles, opening at 10am.
11:30am (EST) Go to Clegg Memorial Gardens
2pm (EST) Be at Ouiatenon Nature Preserve for our private guided tour. He is not charging us, but donations will be graciously accepted.
3pm (EST) Horticulture Park. Explore the yew tunnels, evergreen collection, crabapple collection, and perennials. Watch birds, squirrels, and aquatic wildlife in the creek that runs along the East side of the park. Information is available for nearly all the trees and shrubs within the park boundaries. Picnic tables, benches, and open fields are available for recreation.
There are light scattered showers in the forecast. If the chances are low and amounts are light, we will likely still go. The final decision on go/no go will be made no later than Thursday evening.
