CHAMPAIGN COUNTY CAMERA CLUB (CCCC)

The Champaign County Camera Club (CCCC) meets twice a month September through May at 7:00 p.m. in the Siebel Center for Computer Science, on the University of Illinois Urbana Campus in Room 1105.  Amateur and professional photographers are welcome. You do not need to be a member to attend the meetings. Check our Calendar for location or date changes.

2019 Best In Show Winners

The Best In Show competition depends upon having competent and knowledgeable judges donate their services. A huge thank you to judges Jon Dessen, Darrell Hoemann and Stacey Gross for viewing and judging over 350 prints this year!

Jon Dessen, owner of Illini Studio, has been photographing people for 38 years, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Ed Dessen, founder of Illini Studio. In Jon’s youth he often traveled with his father to a variety of job locations during which he developed his own love for photography. Since the first portrait Jon took while assisting his father, he has photographed many Champaign County families, celebrities, political figures, and much more. His work has taken him to many distant places that have made his life extremely interesting. Jon has previously served as a judge for several Best in Show and Camera Club competitions.

Stacey Gross is an artist-educator living in Champaign. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a MA/BFA in Art Education and a studio concentration in photography. Stacey has taught art, design, cinema studies and photography classes at Centennial High School since 1994.  She is a National Board Certified Teacher, Centennial’s Fine Arts Content Area Chair, and the K-12 Visual Arts Coordinator for Champaign Unit School District #4.  In 2015, Stacey was named Illinois Art Educator of the Year by the Illinois Art Education Association and a Woman of Distinction by Girl Scouts of Central Illinois in 2016. While dedicating most of her time to teaching, Stacey remains a practicing artist, working primarily with camera-less photographic processes, mixed media collage and printmaking.  Her travels to Japan heavily influence her life and work.

Darrell Hoemann retired as the News-Gazette’s first photo editor in July 2013, after 25 years. He currently is the photo editor for the Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting and owns Darrell Hoemann Photography. He is an emeritus board member of the Associated Press Photo Managers, recognizing his contributions as a founding member of the organization. He continues to teach photography classes. A graduate of the University of Missouri, Darrell came to our community from the post of chief photographer for the Greenville (SC). A native of St. Louis, he has taught photography classes at the Greenville County Museum of Art, Furman University, and the University of Illinois. An ASMP member, he has been a member of the National Press Photographers Association since 1977 and has provided his expertise many times to Camera Club and Best in Show competitions.
