“My name is Gordon J. Nord Jr. I am currently the Fire Chief for the Village of Lyons Illinois and have been for the past 24 years.
I started my fire service career in 1977 as a Cadet for the Village of Lyons Fire Department. A Cadet was only allowed to go to a fire when it was under control or out to roll hose and do non-hazardous duties, the only exception was if you were a photographer! Then you could go out of town and go to all the in town fires while they were going on.
In 1980 I was also hired as a part time Firefighter/Photographer for the Village of Brookfield.
I stayed active in both departments until 1997 when I was appointed Chief of the Lyons Fire Department and at such time stopped my employment with Brookfield Fire Department.
My love and interest in photographing the fire service has continued since I first started in 1977, being published in many trade magazines and fire service publications.
I currently still take pictures whenever possible and still am active in supplying images to publications and magazines.
Class will cover my background, discussion about taking fire related images, what to expect and see, some tips and tricks that work for me, review of images discussing how they were taken and why and a general slideshow and review of fire related images.”
